Deafblind/Dual Sensory Loss Meeting - Wednesday 23 Apr 2025 - 1:30pm to 3pm
Cumbria Deaf Association and Vision Support Barrow & District are co-hosting a Dual Sensory Loss Meeting open to people who are Deafblind.
On Wednesday 23rd April, Cumbria Deaf Association (CDA) and Vision Support Barrow & District (VSBD) will be co-hosting a Dual Sensory Loss Meeting open to people with a hearing and vision impairment, sometimes referred to as Deafblind.
The meeting will take place at CDA’s Barrow Deaf Centre at 217 Duke Street in Barrow-in-Furness from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. Team members from both charities will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
In attendance from Cumbria Deaf Association will be their Administrator, Becky Smith, and one of their BSL Interpreters, Nicola Alloway.
In attendance from Vision Support Barrow & District will be their Client Services Manager, Claire Huddleston, and two of their Vision Support Officers, Gemma Waite & Ruth Shields.
Both charities will be demonstrating some of their assistive aids and technology available to enable to you to live independently and live well. Some of these aids also provide additional safety for you in your home.
As of 2022 it is estimated that 450,000 across the UK are deafblind. We also know that dual sensory loss is more prevalent in those aged 70 and over. There is also a higher estimated proportion of people who are deafblind in rural areas compared to cities and towns.*
