Vision Support Barrow & District Launch Working Age Programme - Tuesday 04 Mar 2025
Vision Support Barrow & District, a charity which supports people with vision impairments across South West Cumbria, has launched a new working age programme which aims to support local people with vision impairments seeking employment, empowering and enabling them to enter & thrive in the workplace.
The new programme is funded by the Eric Wright Charitable Trust and will provide one-to-one support to job seekers and a working age forum for blind and partially sighted people to come together to share lived experiences and advice with one another.
Their Working Age Programme Project Co-ordinator, Nicky Bragg, will be working in partnership with other local charities and organisations including Autus Cumbria, Cumbria Deaf Association, and others.
The one-to-one support sessions will help blind and partially sighted people in various areas of work including:
- Finding individual skills
- Helping to access training
- Support for CVs
- Assisting in identifying employment options
- Interview coaching
- Building confidence
- Volunteer signposting
- Access to Work support
- Promoting employer vision impairment awareness
- Peer support at their Working Age Forum
The charity will also be hosting these one-to-one sessions at their Vision Support Centre on Cavendish Street as well as holding a monthly drop-in at The Bridge on Portland Walk.
Vision Support Barrow & District currently supports over 900 blind and partially sighted people. However, they know that there are many more people across South West Cumbria who could benefit from their support.
The charity is also a Disability Confident Leader (the only charitable organisation in South West Cumbria with the accolade) and know first-hand how best to support disabled people in the workplace.
