Befriending in the Home Volunteer - Closing date Monday 29 Dec 2025
Role Description
Have an hour or so to spare once a week or every couple of weeks? Why not visit someone in your area who would love your company?
You can fit visits around your other commitments and support is ongoing.
Application Process
Apply via our website (ssia.org.uk) or email [email protected].
Following an initial phone call to find out more about you and vice versa, you will be provided with Level 1 Safeguarding Training, Awareness sessions on Lone Working & Professional Boundaries and access to our Volunteer Guidelines (including our Safeguarding Policy) for you to read.
An Enhanced DBS is required, which we will process for you. Following this, you will have a meeting with our Volunteer Coordinator to go through the finer details (and put a face to a name!) and show one form of photo ID to receive your volunteer ID badge
Once all the above is complete, we will add you to our friendly BITH WhatsApp group, where you will see jobs come up for you to pick up (or not, if you can't). We will initially 'match' you with a client, whom you will have an initial phone call with to see how well you are getting along, then an initial visit is arranged. On the first visit, a risk assessment is carried out to make sure you are both safe and happy to continue. From then on, it's up to you to arrange future visits - but always remember to report back on your visits.
Feel free to get in touch for an informal chat to find out more.
