One in 3 people over the age of 65, many in good health, will have a fall this year. Falls are the most common accidents and can cause serious injury at any time of life, although the risk increases with age.
Falls are a major cause of hospital admissions for older people and they often result in a protracted and painful recovery. Regular physical activity helps us maintain strength and flexibility so that we can carry on doing the things we enjoy and remain independent; There are simple ways to improve our fitness levels, which are not too strenuous.
Poor eyesight and hearing, poorly fitting shoes or slippers can also play a part in increasing the risk of falls.
