Groundwork NE & Cumbria vision is of a society of sustainable communities which are vibrant, healthy and safe, which respect the local and global environment, and where individuals and enterprise prosper.
Our mission is to inspire people and deliver positive sustainable change in places of need across the North East and Cumbria. To achieve our aim we work with passionate individuals, proactive public services and innovative businesses.
Together we work across the North East and Cumbria helping communities find practical sustainable solutions to the challenges they face. We provide training and create jobs, reduce energy and waste, reconnect people with nature and transform whole neighbourhoods.
In Cumbria we deliver welfare to work contracts (Journey to Work) across the County, supporting economically inactive or unemployed people back into work. This contract is funded via ESF/DWP. We are the Prime contractor in Allerdale and Copeland and deliver Building Better Opportunities (Choices) Big Lottery/ESF funded, to people that have complex barriers. We manage a partnership of 12 different organisations that also work to deliver this programme.
We specialise in supporting people with mental health, health conditions, drug and alcohol, 50+, Ex-offenders and many more complex issues.
We also have contracts with Cumbria County Council and deliver unaccredited pre employment skills and also have a contract with Carlisle College delivering accredited qualifications to people that are in work.
