CancerCare is an independent charity helping people affected by cancer or bereavement across North Lancashire & South Cumbria.
CancerCare provides a wide range of free, therapeutic support services designed to help people come to terms with and manage the challenges of a serious illness and grief.
The charity has four dedicated centres based in Kendal (The Lakes Centre, Blackhall Road), Barrow-In-Furness ( 76 Duke Street), Lancaster (Slynedales, Slyne Road) and Morecambe (34 Northumberland Street).
Delivered by qualified and experienced staff, CancerCare’s professional therapy services complement treatments & advice from other healthcare professionals and include:
- Counselling (individuals)
- Children and Young People’s Service (for children as young as three)
- Hypnotherapy
- Alexander Technique
- Massage (including Aromatherapy and Indian Head Massage)
- Social & Support Groups
- Nutritional advice
- Creative Art Therapies (including art, craft, jewellery and woodwork groups) ( Not all of these are available currently in Barrow-In-Furness)
- Community outreach services in local hospitals
- Support for carers (including young carers)
- Bereavement support for anyone affected by bereavement (not just cancer)
- Young people's peer support group
Hydrotherapy
Online yoga, Pilates and Mindfulness Courses
All CancerCare’s services are provided completely free of charge and aim to:
- Improve wellbeing
- Encourage self confidence
- Promote relaxation
- Relieve symptoms
- Help with pain management
- Ease the physical and emotional effects of medical treatments
- Provide extended support to carers and families
