Craven Refugee Support Network
Craven
We are a Hub of information consisting of 5 groups within Craven district plus many individual supporters. Local groups have contacts listed on the website and are : Bentham; Settle; Malhamdale; Skipton and Upper Wharfedale.
We support City of Sanctuary which is a national movement https://cravenrefugees.org/ and within that some Schools of Sanctuary. Craven is becoming a District of Sanctuary as agreed by Craven District Council this year (2022)
We offer information about the work done to help and support refugees and asylum seekers in our area and also in the wider areas, mostly Bradford, Leeds, Nelson and Lancaster. Many groups & individuals collect donations in kind to redistribute, some teach English, some support local families and actively fund raise. Most groups host visits either for a day or weekends, especially to the Yorkshire Dales, to give refugees living in towns a break from their day to day living. Talks to raise awareness and inform are occasionally arranged, as are films, often for Refugee Week in June. Campaigns and demonstrations are also part of the work done, plus making contact with local politicians on issues affecting refugees generally.
