Multicultural Cumbria
Cumberland
Westmorland and Furness
Mission Statement
MCC exists to enable, engage and empower diasporas to create a truly multicultural county; to break down barriers and promote cultures by sharing our similarities and celebrating our differences. This promotes a strong sense of identity for diaspora to make a positive contribution
Vision Statement
Our vision is to lead by working collaboratively with partners and organisations as we share our values of embracing multicultural integration and community cohesion. We focus on the needs of our ethnically diverse communities to enable them to develop a sense of belonging and ownership of their rich heritage and culture in Cumbria.
We do this through four programme areas.
Education – Talks in schools, statutory bodies, NHS, companies, organisations and community groups
Social – Organise and support ethnic minority groups to deliver social gatherings for their own communities and inviting other ethnic minorities and wider community
Health and Wellbeing – develop projects to increase social integration through activities to target ethnic minority women, children and men to reduce isolation and the benefits of social prescribing
Events – Community events to bring together over 50 heritages through family orientated events for the whole community. An annual conference for BAME people to have the opportunity to share their contribution to the communities they come from and live in.
