Museum of North Craven Life (North Craven Building Preservation Trust)
Craven
The North Craven Building Preservation Trust acquires and preserves buildings important to the heritage of North Craven. We own The Folly, home to The Museum of North Craven Life, which tells fascinating tales of the people and landscape of North Craven.
Built in the late 17th century, The Folly was once the home of a wealthy lawyer. During its life, it has been a family home, farmhouse, bakery, warehouse, furniture shop, refreshment rooms, fish & chip shop, bank and a salvage business. It has so many stories to tell and holds a diverse collection of objects and an archive rich with the history of the North Craven area, its social, industrial and cultural development.
The Museum tells the story of North Craven, starting from the local landscape and its influence on all aspects of life in the area. We do this through exhibitions, events and sharing stories from our collections.
Our volunteers welcome visitors, care for the garden and buildings and work with the museum collections. They are a vital part of all the work that we do.
As a volunteer there are lots of opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills or put those you already have to good use. We are always glad to welcome new people to The Folly team, from keen gardeners to IT-savvy volunteers recording our collection, from tour guides to visitor welcome volunteers. Training is provided and we are happy to discuss ways in which you might want to get involved.
