DIGNITY IN DEMENTIA FAMILY CARERS COURSE
A free to attend dementia programme that provides best practice dementia guidance, designed to help carers connect more effectively with their relative with dementia so they are more content, engaged and calm. Contact us to find out where and when they are happening.
PERSONALISED ACTIVITY PLANNING SERVICE
for people newly diagnosed with dementia. Often when someone is diagnosed with dementia they lose the confidence to continue to carry out tasks and get involved in activities, and this can lead to them becoming deskilled sooner than would otherwise be the case. Our Community Activity Planner will visit the individual and a family member at home to help them understand the importance of staying busy. They will also find out about their personal history, work interests and hobbies and then create a personalised activity plan that documents things they can do at home and what’s on in the local area they are likely to enjoy. Contact us for more details and to organise a visit.
DEMENTIA EMBRACING SINGING GROUPS (in Ambleside, Sedbergh, Silverdale, Barrow and plans for new ones in other parts of Cumbria)
Our singing groups enable individuals with dementia to come together with those in their local communities to sing and have fun. Generally the songs are upbeat from the 1950s and 60s and popular shows.
COMMUNITY COME DANCING SESSIONS - currently in Milnthorpe and Windermere, with plans to run more in other areas.
Great fun for everyone. These are intergenerational sessions that bring older people from the local community, including some with dementia, together with 10 year olds from a local school to dance to music from the 1950s and 60s. The children also serve refreshments and chat.
DEMENTIA FRIENDLY WALKS FOR ALL - Currently around Kendal but with plans to start groups close to Keswick & Carlisle
1 hour easy guided weekly walks that start and finish at a pub or cafe. For people with dementia and their carer, together with anyone else who would like the support of our friendly group to enjoy the beautiful countryside.
Relaxed Community Music Group 'A Different Tune' meets in Grange-over-Sands on Tuesday mornings. For anyone who has previously enjoyed playing a musical instrument, including people with dementia. An opportunity for individuals to come together in a non-pressured environment and make music.
